A proud moment and more Spring Thrills
A proud moment and more Spring Thrills

In your exploration of my website, you may have noted that I have a page of links to other websites that I frequent. One of the categories contains links to other bird photographers, all of whom I admire and gain aspiration from. One of those photographers is Arthur Morris. Artie Morris (as he prefers to be called) is one of the preeminent bird photographers in the world and regularly publishes valuable photo tips in his blog a few times a week which I find very helpful. He ran his 1st International Bird Photography contest earlier this year and I entered 6 photos into several categories. Today I learned that I placed 5th in the category ‘hand of man’ in the eyes of the judges! Wahoo! This makes me very proud and gives me the courage to think outside the box and create more exciting and inspiring images.
Arthur’s comments in regards to my photo are - “This beautifully conceived and designed image carries with it a powerful environmental message: wind turbines kill too many birds each year. The placement of the bird relative to the blades of the two turbines and beautiful dorsal view both added to the success of this image.”
You can see the contest entries and comments here. http://www.birdsasart-blog.com/2012/06/20/hand-of-man-category-voting-analysis-and-related-comments/

Other than that, this has been a very busy spring, photography-wise and I am very behind in processing the thousands of images I have taken in the last 3 months. Even though I am not up to date in processing my images, I am still able to find a few gems that I would like to share with you.
One of my favourite movies is “Field of Dreams”. When the ‘ghosts’ come out of the field for the first time, they ask Ray, “Is this heaven?” Of course it isn’t, but I can’t help think of that line when we are visiting my family and their property on St. Joseph Island. We visit as often as we can and of course, my camera gear is not far from my reach. You can read more about their farm at their website www.salamanderridgefarm.ca. On our last visit in early June, I found some more willing subjects.
